We quit our jobs, sold everything and moved aboard our 1984 Tayana 37 today.
We bought her in 2000, and spent five years getting her prepared for full-time live aboard cruising in the Caribbean. We are attempting to complete the finishing projects before we cross the Gulf of Mexico.
We still have to mount the dorade guards, mount the LifeRaft, EPIRB, change the oil in the engine, generator, and transmission fluid, refresh the teak on the outside, install the chartplotter, GPS, radar and final adjustments on the autopilot. We will also change the frayed steering cables before departing. We have a lot of work to do, but we will get it done. Plan to depart Kemah in early December for the Dry Tortugas, in the Florida Keys. It will be a six day crossing.
Hurricane Rita decided to come up the Houston Ship Channel, near Valentina, but we had her secured and not damage. Our hearts sank....when we were evacuated to leave Kemah.
